This post is not really a post. That’s because I decided to make a video on a recent trip exploring the Wimmera region of Victoria. The Wimmera is basically the wheat belt of Victoria and is dry land farming. This makes the farmers solely reliant on rain for a successful crop and sadly this year has been incredibly dry.
The farms in the area are few but enormous and a single wheat field can be kilometres square. As I discovered, this means photo opportunities are actually very scarce. But the skies are open, clear and very dark!
The first 7 minutes of the video show my trip and how I shot various locations. The next 48 minutes shows how I pieced together and processed my multi layer panorama shown below. I shot a panorama foreground and a separate milky way arch sky then blended the two together. Beware, this method is not for the faint hearted and also includes a few optional plugins. But if you’re brave, I’m certain you’ll pick up some great hints and processes along the way. Remember, there are many ways to process an image, this is just one way that I have found works well for me.
